Mobile Webcasting… Mobcasting?
I’ve been playing around with my XDA Exec, and discovering new ways in which it can serve. I don’t know anyone else with a UMTS enabled phone, and as far as I know, Skype and MSN have yet to support Video Conferencing on a Pocket PC (WM5). So, what can I do with this high speed mobile connectivity. Thanks to a company called ComVu, I can stream video to the masses, from my PDA:
ComVu has created the world’s first live video broadcast solution from a mobile device to a global audience. With the push of a button on a camera phone bloggers, citizen reporters, family members, friends and corporate professionals can broadcast live events to their communities - simply and inexpensively.
ComVu - Welcome to Mobile Webcasting
At the moment it’s free (as in, Beer) and in Beta. Extra functions include the ability to to notify various groups of contacts when I’m live, and also an online, on-demand archive of previous streams. At the moment, I’m sure it won’t take long for this excellent service to be picked up by mobbloggers everywhere. Why? Well, from what I can see in the GUI, it can automagically alert Typebad and Blogger blogs when the user is streaming. Roll on support for Wordpress.
Windows users can see the current stream, and view the on-demand archive hyar. Mobile users, you can point your browser hyar. I forgot to mention, there’s also an RSS feed to subscribe too. I think I’ll link on the sidebar, and maybe experiment with thunking e-mail notifications to blog posts :)
