Has the DruidWiki Run Its Course?
We had a very interesting discussion last night on TDN’s IRC channel. Mostly, about why don’t people get involved with the DruidWiki. Some very interesting points were raised:
- People don’t know how to use it.
- People don’t like the concept of losing control of a piece of text.
- People don’t like to just create a stub-article, they want to do the whole thing from cradle to grave. Don’t like to leave things unfinished.
- People are comfortable with what they’ve currently got.
This got me thinking about the original aims of the DruidWiki, which was clearly defined from the outset, about one and a half years ago, and is still in place on the front page:
The DruidWiki offers an opportunity to investigate the feasibility and practicality of providing an oral-like communication mechanism for collaborative projects within the Druid community, using Wiki technology and principles.
With that in mind, the DruidWiki has been a successful project, we have investigated the feasibility and practicality of Wiki technology and principles for the Druid community, and we have an answer: “It’s not feasible, because it’s not used, therefore, it’s not practical, because content is minimal.”
So, I’ll shortly be announcing a closing data for the DruidWiki project. Any material that has been submitted to the DruidWiki still remains licensed under the GFDL (GNU Free Documentation License), and will continue to be protected, as well as freely available upon request.

In response to these thoughts, I’m still pressing on with publicising the DruidWiki and encouraging folks to participate. Hopefully, we’ll all be able to pick it up.
To aid beginners and savvy folks alike, I’ve prepared a twenty minute tutorial video of the DruidWiki, and it’s hosted by Druid.tv!
I hope you check it out.
