As the World Cyber Games, 2006 will kick off in just under five hours time. I’d like to draw your attention to a special event to be hosted by WCG 2006. the Quake4 All Stars Invitational. It’s going to be a bake-off between the world’s top eight Quake4 players. These names were selected by a process of nominated (twenty nominees) by expexts, then open to the public polls.
Players Competing:
All events will be covered in IRC, as well as via a Video On Demand system… Sweet.
I thought I’d give a progress updates of how my Quake experience is going. First off though, I do only see myself playing the occasional single player game on a PC, and some Quake deathmatch. Because I’m running Linux on my main workstation, there’s only a few games with native clients. Although, I do have dual-boot capability into Windows, I’ve not booted into Windows to play other games… Mostly because it’s slow to start-up, and I use it so rarely, I’m dreading the accumalitive updates :)
Quake IV
My Quake IV deathmatching skills are improving. I think this is mostly due to the maps becoming more familiar to me. Twitch skills certainly do take a bit of catching up (and I’m not yet back to me old level), but familiarity with the battleground, and the physics is key to area control.
QuakeWorld
Hah, whilst tracking down DocTea (DocTyrell) and Ruiner. I got persuaded into installing a QuakeWorld client (ezQuake) and jumping onto a 4on4 server for a quick bash! Bloody hell, the physics are over-emphasised! :D And the rocket speed, and no rail-guns! We were up against clan SD (?)… They kept asking us, “Which Division are you in?”, and Ruiner kept telling them, “Um… Division 2, 1997.” *chortle*
Now I’m on the hunt for Interphaz (Phazey), Grim, and Ravage.
Update: We’ve found PhaZey :D

It seems work progressed far quicker than expected. So, I’m releasing this Quake4 modification today (before I waste all my time tweaking it). Here you have Quake4 representations of the QuakeWorld skins for the Terminal Gibbage clan. Only a few clan members originally submitted skins, so not all clannies have a unique model, but the ‘base’ model is the generic one :)
New multiplayer models:
The modification is available on FilePlanet, and AddonDB.
Enjoy!

Some of the folks who know my history with computers will know that I’m (almost ashamedly) responsible for starting the UK’s first Quake Clan. The Clan, Terminal Gibbage, originally consisted of myself and a couple of workmates (Anthrax, and Morph). It started off slow, until I was approached by an enthusiastic character named ‘Jester‘, we got talking about the iminent release of QuakeWorld, and both wanted to hit the scene running…
Jester convinced me that the Clan’s original, happy-go-lucky style to camaraderie would attract like minded people, who just wanted to meet up with fellow Quake/QuakeWorld players, and shoot-the-shit out of them… Online — of course.
I created a web site (TG Page), which unfortunately is no longer in existence, and does not appear in the Way Back Machine, but there is a ‘newer’ version there.
We hung out in IRC on #tg, and we participated in multiple Leagues, including the UKCL (United Kingdom Clan League), we had a skin in the QuakeWorld Skin Pack (called “terminal”).
Unfortunately, I can’t find a full roster, but the names that spring to mind are Grim, Ruiner, Onyx, Interphaz, Scanman, DocTee, Jester, Illusion, Nutz, Odyssey, Unzip, and Kami.Kaze.
And here’s Jester’s initial announcement that TG had opened its doors:
The UK based Quake clan Terminal Gibbage is now recruiting. We are prepared to give anyone a chance to prove there worth. Be warned we’re not just a clan who are just in it for the sake of being a clan. We are a group of serious Die-Hard Quake players and we are looking for gamers of the same nature.

If you were a member of TG, or have any images/demo material of the clan, I’d be interested in receiving it… I feel a re-union LAN party coming on :D
