Milton Keynes: world centre of porn and sex

Google Trends tells it like it is

It’s official: Milton Keynes is the world’s centre of pornography and sex, according to Google Trends.…

Yup, in 1982 the Sinclair ZX Spectrum hit the stores. One of the first popular micro-computers aimed at the family unit. This computer holds a special place in my heart (and on my bookshelf). Of the VIC-20, Oric and Atmos, the ZX Spectrum was my favourites and the one I coded on all the way up to 1992.

It also spawned some off the wall computer magazines, which broke the mould of general programming mag’s of the time. Your Sinclair (alternate site) was far superior to Crash (although I did appear in Crash… Actually, I appeared in YS too), and Sinclair User. You can find out more about the Speccy at World of Spectrum. Or you can play some ZX Spectrum games with Jasper, a Java ZX Spectrum emulator.

Bless.

ZX Spectrum

Tip of the hat to The Register.

Those that have been keeping up with the Play.com thread on Splash Damages’ forums will know that I’ve switched from pre-ordering [sic] ET:QW with Play.com to Game.co.uk. Those that have done the same, have now got their Gametag early registration codes, whilst those who’re still with Play.com are still out in the cold.

Game.co.uk have also reduced their Quake Wars prices to match Play.com, so now there’s no reason not to swap.

Clan Server Status

Hi all! I’ve ammeneded the ‘Server Block’ in the footer of all pages. Now it’s not just a begging button, but it will also display the current users online, on our TeamSpeak2 and Quake3 servers. I also intend to add some form of IRC count too.

Let me know what you think.

Frets on Fire

ARGH! Someone in #splashdamage was talking about Guitar Hero, and mentioned Frets on Fire in passing. FoF is a Guitar Hero clone, writting in Python. It’s also unique in that no special controller is required, nor encouraged (although it does support them). Instead the player must hold their keyboard like a guitar, minus the strap. Probably best to play this whilst sitting down, Christopher Lillycrap style.

Frets on Fire

It’s a free/Free game which has three example songs included, and a large community creating new game files for old favourites. There’s also a feature to import GH1 and GH2 songs to play in FoF.

It’s bloody addictive!
